August 2016 – What’s Happening in Puerto Rico?
Summer continues here in Puerto Rico, the kids are heading back at school in mid august and the temperature is hot. Event highlights for August include the “SOFO” Culinary Fest, Boma & Plena Festivaland a thirst quenching Margarita Festival.
As always there will be plenty of things to do around the island, especially on weekends so lets see what’s happening this month.
Aug 11-14, Old San Juan “SOFO” Food Fest
The semi annual Sofo Food Festival features 40+ restaurants in and around Calle Fortaleza and Calle San Francisco celebrating amazing food. Streets are closed to traffic, outdoor tables line the streets, restaurants offer special SoFo menus and live music fills the air during the 4 days of the festival.

Aug 13-14, Bomba & Plena Festival, Juana Diaz
Festival featuring the music and dance style of Bomba & Plena. The festival takes place at the Paseo Tablado (Boardwalk) in Juana Diaz

Aug 20, Margarita Fest, San Juan
Head to the Centro de Convenciones de Puerto Rico in San Juan for a taste of Mexico and Margaritas. Restaurants taking part include: El Vagon, Hijole, Frida’s, Tijuana’s, White Cactus, La Chalupa de Lola, Sabor de México and more

Aug 20, Taking the Forts (Centennial Fun Run 2.5 miles)
Celebrate the National Parks Centeenial with a 2.5 mile fun run between San Cristobal Fort and El Morro Fort. The run starts at 6am!!!
Aug 25-28, Free Admission to Old San Juan Forts
To celebrate the national Parks Centinneal Year, there will be FREE admission to both El Morro and san Cristobal Forts
