Covid-19 & Visiting Puerto Rico – What You Need To Know

Covid-19 has impacted our world since March 2020. Here are the latest visitor health and safety guidelines. Puerto Rico is committed to providing a safe travel experience.

Upon Arrival: Airport

All arriving passengers must complete an online Travel Declaration Form from the Puerto Rico Health Department, show a negative molecular COVID-19 test result taken no more than 72 hours prior, and obtain an Airport Exit Confirmation QR Code, which travelers will automatically receive when uploading their molecular test results to the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal.

Arriving travelers can access the Travel Declaration Form at www.travelsafe.pr.gov or www.viajaseguro.pr.gov.

  • Travelers must get a molecular COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to visiting the Island.Only symptomatic travelers (a person who is displaying COVID-19 related symptoms) will get tested at the airport by the Puerto Rico National Guard.The 14-day quarantine is mandated until the traveler provides proof of a negative molecular test result taken on the Island.
  • Face coverings are mandatory at airports and public areas, or individuals will be subject to a fine.Thermographic cameras monitor temperatures.Enhanced protocols will take place at baggage claim before exiting the airport.
  • An Island-wide curfew is in place from 10:00 PM – 5:00 AM, through  December 11th.

Getting Around: Transportation

  • Certified transportation carriers are properly disinfecting vehicles and have hand sanitizer available.
  • Drivers wear gloves when handling doors and luggage. Face coverings are mandatory for drivers and passengers.
  • Ridesharing options like Uber mandate face coverings for drivers and passengers, with no front seat passengers permitted.

Things to Do: Visitor Experience During Covid-19

Dining

Restaurants are operating at 30% capacity and required to conspicuously post the number of patrons that constitute 30%, making such posting visible to patrons inside and outside of the restaurant.

Employees are required to use face coverings and floor plans are maintaining distancing protocols.

Buffets, salad bars, and self-serve options, as well as reusable menus, are prohibited at restaurants. Gloves are also mandatory for employees when serving guests.

Attractions during Covid-19 Pandemic

Public beaches and natural reserves are open only for individual sports, following social distancing guidelines and with the use of masks when not in the water. Competitive activities, including those professionals, are not allowed for the time being.

Museums are operating at 30% capacity.

Hotel pool facilities are open at 30% capacity.

Marinas are open. Recreational boat use is allowed while maintaining a 15-foot distance. Docking at beaches and nature reserves is not permitted.

Some attractions and tours are open. Visitors should connect with their tour operators directly for additional information about operation status and specific protocols.

Casinos and Golf Courses

Casinos are operating at 30% capacity.

Golf courses, across the Island, are currently open.

Note: Tourism businesses have an appointed Health & Safety Officer responsible for enforcing these measures.

During Your Stay – Stay Safe from Covid-19

Lodging

Thoroughly sanitized properties that follow PRTC standards may be certified with Island-specific health certification seals.

Guests will receive a Health and Safety guide detailing the specialized measures implemented by each property individually.

We recommend visitors connect with their hotels and/or hosts directly for additional information about their specific protocols beyond these and/or if visitors have specific requests.

Properties like hotels and small inns are:

Conducting temperature checks, screen symptoms, and disinfecting luggage in reception areas upon entry.

Adhering to high standards of cleanliness with thorough housekeeping procedures that follow CDC and EPA standards.

Requiring face coverings for all guests and personnel in public areas.

Encouraging limited capacity in elevators and other public spaces.

Pool facilities are open at 30%. Spas are open as well.

Independent rental units that follow PRTC standards may be:

Thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, including the proper sanitation of kitchenware, glassware and utensils.

Equipped with hand soap, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes for guest convenience.

Permitting entrance of only registered guests to the property as no group gatherings are allowed.
